ST. PETERSBURG — Firefighters are battling a roof fire at St. Petersburg High School.

The fire was reported on top of a three-story structure on the campus located at 2501 Fifth Ave. N. The call came in at 2:15 p.m.

The fire started during construction work on the roof and became “fully-involved,” said St. Petersburg Fire Rescue Lt. Steve Lawrence.

Fire commanders declared a “second alarm” to pull in firefighters, engines and ladder trucks from around Pinellas County because the location of the fire will require more manpower, Lawrence said.

One firefighter is being treated for heat exhaustion.
