Published April 2

Florida Spring Turkey season is here, and hunters everywhere have been practicing their calls and dusting off their decoys to get ready. There are some key rules to follow if you want to get that spring gobbler. Getting up before the birds, calling and concealment are critical. Another key element is decoys. In early season, a hen and jake decoy work well to bring that turkey into range. The standard gobbler gun used is a 12-gauge or 20-gauge shotgun. Remember, your shot placement should be on the head. As a beginning turkey hunter there is a lot to learn, but once you call in your first bird, you will be hooked.
