BELLEAIR BLUFFS — It started with verbal threats and ended Saturday with an armed man chasing his target down and killing him in the victim’s own home, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

David Murray Biggs, 22, now faces a charge of first-degree murder.

It started when an argument between Biggs and Darius Johnson escalated into threats, deputies said.

Then Saturday, Briggs drove to Johnson’s home at 160 E Overbrook St. to continue their dispute. During the argument, deputies said Biggs pulled out a gun and started shooting at Johnson.

Johnson ran into his home. But Biggs followed and forced his way inside, deputies said, and continued shooting.

Deputies were sent to investigate reports of gunshots in the area at 12:27 p.m. Inside, they found Johnson had been fatally shot. The 24-year-old was pronounced dead at 12:46 p.m.

Biggs, of Clearwater, was located and arrested shortly afterward. He was in the process of being booked into the Pinellas County jail late Saturday. No other details about the incident were released by the Sheriff’s Office.
