PATTY POWER: Battle of the Burg(er)

A competition now in its seventh year, Battle of the Burg(er) has returned with $8 off-the-menu patties created by 11 eateries across St. Petersburg’s Grand Central District. Help crown the winner by ordering the featured burgers until the end of the month, then voting for your favorite online. Meant to appeal to veg-heads and meat eaters alike, Entries include NuMex’s Hatch Green Chile Bacon Relleno Burger — an Angus beef patty with green chile topped with applewood-smoked bacon and cheese-stuffed chile relleno (which is different from the green chile cheeseburger offered on its regular lineup) — and the Craftsman House’s Psychedelic Burger, a veggie patty with mushrooms, garbanzo beans, quinoa, zucchini, pumpkin, corn, onion and spices on a bed of greens topped with buttered avocado, tomatoes and curry tzatziki sauce. And heads up: Get each eatery’s “unique voting number” at the time of purchase to make your taste buds heard. Runs through Aug. 31. grandcentraldistrict.org.

HOPS TO IT: 97X Craft Beer Experience

The 97X Craft Beer Experience, around since 2012, showcases more than 100 kinds of suds. Live tunes, grub from St. Petersburg restaurants and prizes mingle with the beer, served in a commemorative festival cup. $45. 4-8 p.m. Saturday. Mahaffey Theater, 400 First St. S, St. Petersburg. Down samples of okra dishes during the fifth annual celebration, or face off against other home cooks who think they have the tastiest recipe with okra. Okra Occasion judges award three prizes while spectators snag an okra recipe booklet and fresh okra for sale by local farmers. To compete, call Dell deChant at (727) 849-1626. Free. 6-8 p.m. Monday.
